We have big news…Worthing Foodbank is moving to the Guildbourne Centre in Worthing town centre in June!
Worthing Foodbank has been operating since 2006 and for about the last 5 years the Foodbank has been based at Worthing Tabernacle Church and they have been so brilliant at letting us use one of their rooms to meet and greet our clients. We are so grateful for all they have done but it is time for Foodbank to move home.
Over the last 12 months Redeemer Church, Worthing have been renovating the first floor of the Guildbourne Centre, in Worthing town centre, to be used by the church and to serve the community. Redeemer is passionate about serving the town and Worthing Foodbank is part of their vision to help those who need it.
We are very excited that we will be based in the heart of the town centre and hope to reach those that find themselves in crisis and in need of food. Worthing Foodbank works with over 100 agencies and community groups across the town, including groups that support mental health, asylum seekers, homelessness and unemployment and alongside working with the Trussell Trust and the local agencies we want to stop hunger in our local area.
From June, everything to do with the Foodbank will operate from the Guildbourne Centre; the office, the befriending centre and a storage facility, but we will be keeping our main food warehouse in Ferring.
Over the last month we have shown around 30 volunteers our new space in the Guildbourne Centre and the general feedback has been extremely positive. Any move involves adapting current practices to fit with new premises and we are sure there will be some teething problems but by being located in the centre of Worthing we are praying that we will be able to support even more people, helping them to overcome the crisis they find themselves in and show them the love of Jesus by giving them food, time and care, through the community of the church.
The Foodbank Centre will be opening in the Guildbourne Centre for the first time on Monday 21stJune 2-3.30pm and we hope to launch with a big celebration. We will let you know more details nearer the time.
